As more information is coming out about the terrorist siblings responsible for the Boston bombing, some interesting details are emerging about the elder brother, Tamerlan Tzarnaev, that identify him as a gifted (but clearly troubled) man. While it has already been stated that he was an exceptional amateur boxer, distinguishing himself regionally and with aspirations for the Olympic team, it also appears that he possessed considerable musical talent.
An interesting article in the April 19th edition of the Boston Globe goes into some detail about the man’s abilities across talent domains. The article quotes Gene McCarthy, the founder of the Somerville Boxing Club (where Tzarnaev trained), recalling the gifted young man:
“In the ring, he could knock a man out with one punch. But when he sat at a piano, he could play classical music like you wouldn’t believe.”
Ultimately, however, Tamerlan Tzarnaev will not be remembered for his talents, but for murdering four people and injuring 178.
